Klimas Wkręt-met at the International Forum Wood Building in Italy

Italy is the next stop of the International FORUM HOLZBAU, which took place on 22 September in Lazise. Klimas Wkręt-met, a leader in the field of fastening techniques in Central and Eastern Europe, was among the exhibitors.

The International Forum Wood Building, which takes place in major European cities, is the most important event offering engineers, architects, designers and heads of authorities responsible for the control and supervision of construction works and experts the opportunity to discuss their experiences and achievements, as well as their goals in the field of wood construction design. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to obtain and exchange information in a wide range of areas. The leader of fastening techniques, Klimas Wkręt-met participates in the meetings of Forum Holzbau for yet another time. Previously, its offer directed to the wood construction industry was presented, among others, in Warsaw and Paris. This time experts will meet in Italy, an important centre for modern wood construction, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Wooden buildings as a climate solution

This year’s meeting of experts from the wood construction industry is mainly devoted to topics related to the development of low-carbon building solutions. As study after study has shown, replacing conventional building materials with wood reduces emissions during the construction phase by 69%, or an average of 216 kg CO2e/m2 of building area. Replacing conventional building materials with low-carbon materials such as wood is a key strategy for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Based on these estimates, substituting wood for conventional building materials in 50% of new construction worldwide could achieve 9% of annual emissions reduction needed by 2030 to prevent temperature increases of more than 1.5°C. The potential of large-scale use of wood in construction for climate change mitigation can be tapped more quickly through policy and private investment. Policy actions such as changing building codes, offsetting carbon emissions, and setting emission reduction targets for the building sector will remove barriers and encourage massive use of wood.

Traditional building technologies will not help us reduce the environmental impact of construction. As a manufacturer operating in the industry, we have known this for years, developing a range of fixing techniques specifically for wood construction. Among the products of this category are screws and carpentry fasteners, techniques for fixing wall insulation to wooden substrates, mechanical anchors, as well as a family of universal screws for anchoring in concrete. Our offer is based on an assortment of standardized fasteners. Each production run undergoes rigorous testing to ensure that the products meet the required strength parameters, are corrosion resistant and increase the speed of assembly. All products have European Technical Accreditation (ETA) certification, which confirms full compliance with the established standards for manufacturing, storage and distribution of the product and the continuous control of the production process. Our portfolio is aimed at both smaller wood construction investments as well as professional wooden buildings based on CLT or BSH panels, stated Maciej Strychalski, Marketing Director at Klimas Wkręt-met.

Response to the requirements of modern wood construction

Wood screws are responsible for carrying heavy loads. Therefore, helping to strengthen the individual elements, they must be resistant to, among other things, weight, wind force and other weather conditions. Klimas Wkręt-met offers in this range a comprehensive portfolio of products, both for professional use as well as for home use. Our carpentry screws owe their popularity to their advantages, among which the following should be mentioned first of all: transferring higher loads, comfort and speed of fixing, making it possible to tighten screwed elements, increasing the rigidity of the fastened elements, and finally, making it possible to correct a faulty assembly (the possibility of unscrewing and re-screwing), commented Maciej Strychalski.

One of the most popular products for universal use are construction screws with a washer head (WKCP) or conical heads (WKCS and KMWHT). Thanks to appropriately selected material (carbon steel) and special thread geometry the screws have achieved high strength parameters. This is why they are suitable for joining structural elements, reinforcing structures or fixing thermal insulation. Fast and safe screwdriving is guaranteed by the innovative tip design and additional cutting notches. Their role is to cut through wood fibres when screwing, so they can be installed without pre-drilling.

That is why it is so important to have fastening details that allow professionals to accurately finish the joints. The manufacturer responds to market needs by offering WKSS expansion joint screws, which facilitate the process of levelling surfaces in wooden structures. Expansion joints, like other carpentry screws, are coated with an additional wax coating that makes the installation process easier and faster.

Our presence at the meetings of wood construction experts is one of the elements of our long-term strategy, which aims to promote low-emission solutions in the construction industry. During the Italian edition of the Forum we had the opportunity not only to present our offer but also to share our experience gained by participating in investments around the world. The future is being created today and we want to fully participate in this process, providing solutions that are strong for generations, concluded Maciej Strychalski.
