How to
level the battens properly?

The levelling of battens is of crucial importance for the execution of safe and aesthetically pleasing roofing. The WKSS spacer distance screws offered by Klimas Wkręt-met will make this task easier and faster.

Wooden wedges, once used, are losing their popularity due to problems resulting from the use of this solution. After many years, the wood dries out and reduces its volume, and gaps are created between the construction elements and the wedges, causing the so-called construction floating, i.e. instability that threatens safety.

Spacer distance screws perfectly cope with the serious task of levelling the battens of the roof structure. Thanks to their secure installation, they guarantee stability and the unique solutions developed by Klimas Wkręt-met reduce working time.

WKSS – a product created for roofers

WKSS spacer distance screws are galvanised and their diameter is 6 mm. Offered in lengths from 60 to 160 mm, they are dedicated to solid wood structures and glued wood panels such as CLT or KVH. The screws have double threading. The supporting thread allows the position of the batten to be adjusted. The lower thread has been equipped with Klimas Wkręt-met’s proprietary solution, a milling tip, which allows the wood to be caught already at low pressure. The tip eliminates the need to drill into the wood, even the hardest wood. This functionality dramatically reduces working time. The screws have a wax coating which, by making work easier, reduces battery consumption of the screwdriver. The countersunk head used in the screws is perfectly flush with the wood and this effect allows achieving the TX drive, which transmits the torque well.

A well-executed structure means safety for years to come

Precise alignment of the battens is crucial in terms of roof safety. At the same time, this work is extremely important for the aesthetics of the roof, whether it is tile or classic clay tiles or slate or plain tile. The correct levelling of the structure avoids the effect of waves on the roof surface.

Proper installation of WKSS screws

The proper installation of WKSS screws involves connecting the batten to the structure and then tightening until the head is hidden in the wood. Then, by unscrewing the screw, the batten is moved away from the structure and the resulting distance is used to level the surface. The resulting distance must not exceed the length specified by the producer, as shown on the screw. This means that in a correctly levelled batten, neither the upper nor the lower threads extend beyond the material.

WKSS screws make work considerably easier and faster. This solution is appreciated by roofers who value good quality and ergonomic solutions.
